Like most people, throughout my life I have gone through ups and downs with my weight. It seems like every ten years or so I’d either gain a lot of weight or lose a lot of weight. Up until recently I never paid much importance to my weight or how to lose it and keep it off. I never thought of calorie intakes or bad habits or anything. It wasn’t an issue to me or I just never cared.

That was until I started feeling my heart skipping a beat. Also at the time I was struggling with depression and alcohol. I tried to start exercising by swimming and try my best to stop my drinking habit. I went every day and tried my best to lose the weight and stop drinking but failed again and again. The weight just wouldn’t budge or show improvement. What was even more scary was my blood pressure it was off the charts in the danger zone. I had to do something for I have two kids and a caring wife.

I continued to fail and kept drinking though I didn’t want to. One day out of the blue my mother in law had started a diet program at a local Korean traditional clinic in the small town of Yanggu South Korea where I live with my family. There after she saw she had lost some weight doing it she suggested I do it for they all were worried about my weight which at the time was about 120 kgs. This was prefect timing for me especially after seeing my heart pressure and was secretly worried I agreed to give it a try. I signed on for a three month program with a month rest, then if I wanted to do it again.

I told the doctor I would like to go down to 87 kgs which was the weight I was down to when I got married. The doctor told me it was of course possible but like all methods of diet it has to be done by the person itself not just relying on the medicine or treatment.

So I started the program. It involved electric acupuncture on my huge stomach and herbal medicine to drink three times a day. The medicine was strong and killed my appetite and cravings. It was slow at first losing only small amount of weight in the first two weeks. This depressed me and made me think it wasn’t really worth it. I felt pressure to succeed for my mother in law paid for it and I really wanted to lose the weight finally. I decided to put more effort into it.

I started swimming everyday again. I cut out all carbs like bread and rice. I wouldn’t touch anything with sugar in it. However I still was drinking, I tried to stop everyday and even tried to cut it down to drink less but keep failing that. I started to see more weight come off. I saw what I was doing was working except the drinking part.

Even though I didn’t want to drink I still did it. I hated myself for it and I believe the medicine was helping me by taking away the desire to drink. In my head I kept saying it’s okay to drink I am still losing weight.

About halfway through the program I noticed I had stalled and the doctor also was curious what was going on for it should be dropping. I lied to everyone about the drinking and everyone saw that I was eating correctly. So I knew then if I wanted to lose the weight fast and for good the drinking had to stop. By this time the medicine was helping with my cravings and eating habits. I told myself to make it work with the drinking. I would not drink until the end of the 3 month program. I had no problem with it by then and was determined to change.

By the end of the 3 months, I was down to 97 kgs. Which was great! I took a month off to rest my body from the medicine and electric shocking. I drank and ate everything I wanted but I had already built new good habits. Those were exercising and my taste for unhealthy foods had changed.

That month rest to everyone’s surprise I had lost a little weight and not put any on. So I went back and told the doctor that one more month should be enough to get down to 87 kgs. Sure enough it was. By the end of that month I was at 87kgs. Everyone including me was surprised by it. For it wasn’t only the program but because of my efforts. This was explained to me that it had worked for people by helping them only lose a little weight but for me I had lost the most. Many people failed at trying this program too.

Currently I have been off the diet for a month now and by myself I am down to 80kgs.

Like most diet programs or fades they all work but it takes yourself to make them work. I would say look into what works best for you. Look at all the things people do. Like calorie counting, carb cutting, etc etc. Put an effort into anything and make it work. There is no magic to any of the diet programs it is you that makes it work just use the programs to your advantage and do it.
